DALIA is a lighthouse project focusing on the Danube River basin and fresh water. As an Innovation Action, it supports the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030. 22 partners across Europe provide innovative freshwater solutions through 9 demo sites in the Danube River basin to improve water ecosystems and facilitate decision-making on water management issues.
The DANSER project (DANube SEdiment Restoration) is a multidisciplinary initiative focused on the restoration and sustainable management of sediments across the Danube River Basin. The project addresses challenges driven by climate change and human impact, aiming to restore sediment balance, enhance sediment flow, and improve water and sediment quality.
DANSER brings together 35 partners, including 7 associated partners, from Portugal, Romania, Croatia, Austria, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Ireland. The project combines advanced approaches such as sediment transport modelling, geophysical surveys, historical reconstructions, and the development of a digital portal to support monitoring and decision-making processes.
Through this collaborative effort, DANSER contributes to strengthening knowledge and tools for sustainable sediment management and the protection of the Danube’s ecosystems.
EcoDaLLi is the acronym for „ECOsystem-based governance with DAnube lighthouse Living Lab for sustainable Innovation processes“.
The main objective of this Horizon project is to centralise Danube governance structures in terms of innovative solutions for improved ecological restoration, protection and preservation of the Danube basin and its delta by fostering a stronger innovation ecosystem within a well-connected Living Lab system.
Funded by Horizon Europe, iNNO SED introduces new paradigms in Sediment Management for the Danube River Basin from the mountains to the Black Sea. We are bringing together sediment researchers, policymakers, river managers, and local communities to develop sustainable and effective solutions that improve sediment quality and quantity in the Danube River Basin.
Restore4Life showcases the remarkable socio-economic benefits derived from a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to restoring freshwater and coastal wetlands in the Danube basin. By creating new blue-green infrastructure that bolsters regional climate change resilience and mitigation efforts, Restore4Life paves the way for a sustainable future.
SoS2LearnDBS is dedicated to restoring the ecosystems of the Danube River Basin and the Black Sea region through the active participation of local communities. The initiative combines innovative, nature-based solutions with community engagement to foster a collaborative approach towards environmental sustainability.
SoS2LearnDBS provides financial support organised through 3 calls for the following types of grants: Community-led actions (CLed) and transition agendas (TAg). These calls will fund projects that support community-led efforts to restore rivers, seas, and waters in the Danube River Basin and Black Sea region.
SUNDANSE is a Horizon Europe project dedicated to developing sustainable sediment management solutions for the Danube River - Black Sea system. The project will test holistic sediment management strategies in Serbia, Romania, and Bulgaria, and distribute financial support through two Open Calls to regional partners to restore the river’s sediment balance.
SWIM is dedicated to improving habitat connectivity, quality, and conservation, with the broader goal of strengthening the health of aquatic ecosystems. Through 13 activities implemented across 7 pilot sites, the project will develop and test innovative, sustainable, and scalable solutions for habitat restoration. With its holistic, multidisciplinary approach, SWIM sets new standards in restoration practices while actively supporting the implementation of EU environmental policies.
